Because of its many advantages, big data has been extending to various domains of science, health, education, and commerce. Despite its many applications, big data sharing typically suffers from some key issues, such as user control, lack of incentives, cost, and the right of data. This paper proposes a decentralized big data sharing prototype to improve the applications and services of big data. The method makes use of Ethereum blockchain and related technologies to systematically recommend the implementation guidelines. The research provides a detailed description of the design and implementation of each sublayer of a big data system. As the method is based on blockchain technology, the key technical points are properly addressed in each of the layers. For evaluation, relevant data were collected, and functional testing was performed. A comparison was performed about the sharing frequency and blockchain consensus performance of similar platforms. The dual mining node of the proposed prototype succeeded in processing 1366 blocks and 300 messages. A comparatively satisfactory file access time in the range of 10 m to 20 s and file transmission time between 100 m and 200 s were achieved. The results obtained show that this prototype can effectively verify the feasibility of the model, the layered architecture, and the related sharing mechanism. For the functional and performance testing, practical projects were implemented and evaluated. The promising results obtained testify that the research offers a theoretical background for innovative research in the domain and specialized guidelines for practical implementation.

Various distributed ledger technologies (DLTs), such as blockchain, have evolved significantly in recent years. These technologies provide a robust and effective solution for providing confidentiality, integrity, nonrepudiation, authentication, and transparency. While blockchain has many advantages, it has various limitations as well, such as complexity, low throughput, privacy, and so on. We discuss the issues that must be considered when deciding whether to use these technologies in a given case or not. We describe the operation of blockchain, application areas where blockchain is suitable, and those where it is not. We also discuss the applicability of other emerging DLTs, apart from blockchain technology, such as Hashgraph, Zcash, Nano coin, and IOTA. INTRODUCTIONAs the name suggests, a blockchain can be considered as a database where digital information (ie, "Blocks") is stored in a distributed network as a chain of blocks. Blockchain falls in the class of distributed ledger technologies (DLT) that allow a database to be used and maintained in a distributed manner. Blockchain provides a shared ledger of transactions 1 that can be read, verified and stored in the form of blocks, forming a chain-like structure. Depending on the size of the transaction, a block may store up to a few thousand transactions (eg, a single block in the bitcoin blockchain can store about 1 MB of data). The security and anonymity provided by blockchain relies on the use of public key based digital signatures, hash functions, and the distributed nature of the database. Participants in a blockchain are connected through a peer-to-peer (P2P) network and are independent of each other. 2 This architecture allows the sharing of resources, 3 avoids single point of failure, and reduces the likelihood of data tampering because the data is not stored or managed by specific nodes. [4][5][6] However, there are many challenges 7 that need to be resolved in the case of distributed networks. These challenges include accountability, confidentiality, integrity, nonrepudiation, and authentication, due to the absence of any central authority. Another major issue is trust because there is no central authority that can resolve any ambiguities or disagreements that may occur. Blockchain resolves all these issues. Confidentiality and authentication are ensured using two-way encryption, that is, by encrypting the data first by the sender's private key and then by the receiver's public key. To decrypt it, first the receiver's private key is used and then the sender's public key. Consequently, data remains confidential, integrity is achieved and because the data can be obtained using sender's public key, it acts as a digital signature that authenticates the data and eliminates the possibility of nonrepudiation. Trust is obtained by introducing a consensus Trans Emerging Tel Tech.

PurposeAlongside the remarkable evolution of cellular communication to 5G networks, significant security and privacy challenges have risen which can affect the widespread adoption of advanced communication technologies. In this context, the purpose of this paper is to examine research within security and privacy for 5G-based systems highlighting contributions made by the research community and identify research trends within different subdomains of 5G security where open issues still exist.Design/methodology/approachThis paper uses a bibliographic approach to review the state-of-the-art in the field of 5G security and is the pioneering effort to investigate 5G security research using this methodology. Specifically, the paper presents a quantitative description of the existing contributions in terms of authors, organizations, and countries. It then presents detailed keyword and co-citation analysis that shows the quantity and pattern of research work in different subfields. Finally, 5G security areas are identified having open challenges for future research work.FindingsThe study shows that China leads the world in terms of published research in the field of 5G security with USA and India ranked second and third respectively. Xidian University, China is ranked highest for number of publications and h-index followed by University Oulu and AALTO University Finland. IEEE Access, Sensors and IEEE Internet of Things Journal are the top publication venues in the field of 5G security. Using VOSViewer aided analysis with respect to productivity, research areas and keywords, the authors have identified research trends in 5G security among scientific community whilst highlighting specific challenges which require further efforts.Originality/valueExisting studies have focused on surveys covering state-of-the art research in secure 5G network (Zhang et al. 2019), physical layer security (Wu et al., 2018), security and privacy of 5G technologies (Khan et al., 2020) and security and privacy challenges when 5G is used in IoT (Sicari et al. 2020). However, our research has revealed no existing bibliometric studies in this area and therefore, to our best knowledge, this paper represents pioneering such effort for security within 5G.
