Blockchain Technology Application in the Sharing Economy: A Proposed Model of Effects on Trust and Intermediation

Abstract: Combining blockchain technology and smart contracts has the potential to facilitate disintermediation and realize true peer-to-peer transactions provided that sufficient trust is build. An advanced research model of blockchain-mediated trust is conceptualized by incorporating extant trust building concepts. The conceptualized model helps to advance future empirical trust research in connection with blockchain technology in the sharing economy by suggesting moderating and mediating effects on trust in online se… Show more

“…The primary methods are more specific as they provide specific information because first-hand knowledge is gathered by primary resources that are highly related to the study. Secondary resources are used to collect detailed information about from previously published articles and financial reports (Mehrwald, et al, 2019). In this study, the researcher has used both primary and secondary sources to collect the data because an individual needs specific and detailed knowledge about the impact of behavioral intention towards cryptocurrency (Albayati, Kim, & Rho, 2020).…”

“…Machine-to-machine (M2M) economy is the next step in the revolution of Industry 4.0 and technological evolution. With blockchain involved in the process of communication, M2M can be realized in efficient and secured manner [ 55 ]. The widespread use of devices and deployment lead to an urgency for secured communication for trust and intermediation in the vehicular systems [ 56 , 57 , 58 , 59 ].…”

“…Despite calls to examine the blockchain technology in the context of P2P platforms [2,[39][40][41][42], Information Systems literature on blockchain-driven trust in this context is scarce [16,17]. Previous research mainly considers blockchain-based systems from a cryptocurrency (e.g., Bitcoin) perspective [43][44][45][46][47][48][49], relies on simulation-based evidence [50], or constitutes conceptual work [51].…”
