Bone morphogenetic protein-15 in follicle fluid combined with age may differentiate between successful and unsuccessful poor ovarian responders

Abstract: BackgroundThe counselling of poor ovarian responders about the probability of pregnancy remains a puzzle for gynaecologists. The aim of this study was to optimise the management of poor responders by investigating the role of the oocyte-derived factor bone morphogenetic protein-15 (BMP-15) combined with chronological age in the prediction of the outcome of in-vitro fertilisation-embryo transfer (IVF-ET) in poor responders.MethodsA retrospective study conducted in a university hospital. A total of 207 poor ovar… Show more

“…They classified their population according to having FF BMP-15 level lower than mean value and higher than mean value. They observed significantly higher IR in 97 women with high FF BMP-15 level than 110 women with low FF BMP-15 level [12]. But in our population we did not observe significant differences for IR, FR and pregnancy rate between women either having lower or higher FF BMP-15 levels than mean value.…”

“…The use of Gonal-F and Triptorelin was stopped on the evening of the same day and 250 µg human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG; Merck Serono; Merck KGaA) was administered via intramuscular injection. After 36-38 h, fertilized eggs were harvested via ultrasound-guided transvaginal puncture oocyte retrieval surgery (26). Following oocyte retrieval surgery, a selected oocyte-corona-cumulus complex was placed into a CO 2 incubator at 37˚C, cultured for 4-6 h.…”

“…The gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) long protocol was used for all patients [16], with daily injections of 0.05 mg/day triptorelin beginning in the luteal phase of the last menstrual cycle, to downregulate the activity of pituitary gland. Gonal-F alone or with human menopausal gonadotropin (HMG) was used for ovarian stimulation.…”
