Bovine Diarrhea Virus

Abstract: Marked cytopathic changes were induced by challenge with Newcastle disease (ND) virus in bovine testicle or kidney cell cultures which were previously infected with non‐cytopathogenic strains of bovine diarrhea (BD) virus. No cytopathic changes were induced by ND virus in similar cells not infected with BD virus. The development of cytopathic effect was shown to be associated with enhancement of ND virus replication. This exalting effect of BD virus appears to be dependent on infectivity, since the effect was … Show more

“…END assay and measurements of type I interferon production : The END assay was conducted using BFM cells as described previously [ 10 ]. In brief, BFM cells grown in 96-well plates were infected with BVDV and incubated for 5 days at 37°C in 5% CO 2 .…”

“…Therefore, it is considered that the appearance of CP virus in a PI animal strongly correlates with the progression to development of MD [ 4 ]. Moreover, NCP BVDV and classical swine fever virus (CSFV) can be further divided into two biotypes, one of which shows the exaltation of Newcastle disease virus phenomenon (END + ) [ 10 , 11 , 15 ] and the other which does not (END – ) but which interferes with vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) and western equine encephalitis virus [ 6 , 12 , 18 , 26 ]. However, END – virus has been rarely recognized, because most have been isolated from a few virus strains which have been passaged in vitro and are detected at a lower ratio than END + phenotypes.…”
