Brain tumor detection using scalp eeg with modified Wavelet-ICA and multi layer feed forward neural network

Abstract: Use of scalp EEG for the diagnosis of various cerebral disorders is progressively increasing. Though the advanced neuroimaging techniques such as MRI and CT-SCAN still stay as principal confirmative methods for detecting and localizing brain tumors, the development of automated systems for the detection of brain tumors using the scalp EEG has started attracting the researchers all over the world notably since 2000. This is because of two important facts: (i) cheapness and easiness of methods of recording and a… Show more

“…Tumor, which is generated from uncontrolled self-dividing of cells, could be discovered using EEG as a cheap secondary alternative for MRI and CT-SCAN. EEG-based Brain tumors detection systems have been the main subject of the researches in [31,32], while [33] has been concerned with identifying breast cancer using EEG signals.…”

“…Moreover, EEG is also used as an initial diagnosis assessment tool alternative to MRI and CT-SCAN due to its costeffectiveness. Here, EEG systems have proven valuable in the diagnosis of disorders of consciousness (DOC) (Guger et al, 2018;Stefan et al, 2018) as well as in the detection of tumors and concussions (Selvam and Shenbagadevi, 2011;Sharanreddy and Kulkarni, 2013;Abdulkader et al, 2015). For DOC diagnosis purposes, the Austrian company Guger Technologies (g.tec) has developed the EEG-based system mindBEAGLE (Figure 4), which provides quick and easy assessments of DOC and basic communication with certain patients (Spataro et al, 2018).…”
