Brane cosmology solutions with bulk scalar fields

Abstract: Brane cosmologies with static, five-dimensional and Z 2 symmetric bulks are analysed. A general solution generating mechanism is outlined. The qualatitive cosmological behaviour of all such solutions is determined. Conditions for avoiding naked bulk singularities are also discussed. The restrictions placed on the solutions by the assumption of such a static bulk are investigated. In particular the requirement of a non-standard energy-momentum conservation law. The failure of such solutions to provide viable qu… Show more

“…Apart from trivial numerical coefficients, equations (8-10) and (13)(14)(15) differ in only one respect: for the same sign of the potential in the action (3) the sign of the potential in the cosmological equations will be opposite for the 4d cosmology and 5d brane world cases. The sign reversal comes about because of the different metric signatures of dw 2 and dt 2 .…”

“…A generalization underlying a CFT on a D 5 -brane has been shown to describe Schwarzschild de Sitter and topological de Sitter on a (D D) 4 -brane by one of the authors (SK) in collaborations [55]. Generically the brane-world models have been successful to address some of the cosmological puzzles such as the inflation [56,57,58,59,60,61]. For a review, see ref.…”

“…For this purpose, we study cosmological dynamics in a DGP setup with a bulk scalar field. Many authors have studied the cosmological consequences of a bulk scalar field (see for instance Kanti and Pospelov 2000;Langlois and Rodriguez-Martinez 2001;Davis 2002aDavis , 2002bFlanagan et al 2001;Parry and Pichler 2004;Heydari-Fard and Sepangi 2009;Ansari and Sepangi 2007). One of the first motivations to introduce a bulk scalar field is to stabilize the distance between the two branes in Randall-Sundrum two-brane model (Cline and Firouzjahi 2001;Kobayashi and Koyama 2002).…”
