Breast intervention surgery robot under image navigation: A review

Abstract: In recent years, breast cancer incidence has increased year by year, which makes research on treatment methods critical. Intervention surgery is a new development in breast cancer treatment. However, the operation is complicated and lasts for a long time. The doctor’s operation can no longer meet clinical needs. The breast intervention robot has the characteristics of minimal invasiveness, operability, and high flexibility so that it can compensate for the shortcomings of traditional interventional surgery. Th… Show more

“…[48,49] Categorized by indications, SRS can be divided into various types. These include navigation and positioning robots used in orthopedics and neurosurgery, [50,51] image-guided puncture robots, [52] ophthalmic micromanipulation robots, [53] natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (NOTES) robots, [54] and pan-vascular intervention robots. [55] Each category was tailored to operate on different target anatomical areas, as shown in Figure 2.…”

“…These aspects make the biopsy procedure a very suitable procedure to be performed by robots. Robotic biopsies have already been performed on various organs such as bone, lung, brain or brainstem, prostate, and liver [90][91][92][93][94]; also, various research is conducted after robotic breast biopsy systems and approaches [95,96]. The following presents robotic ultrasound-guided needle insertion, deformation management, and robotic MRI-guided needle insertion approaches.…”
