Bridging external and attenuated total reflection infrared spectroscopies through computational simulations
L G Vieira
Abstract:This work provides an integrated view of Attenuated Total Reflection (ATR) and External Reflection (ER) for advanced undergraduate and postgraduate students beginning their study of infrared spectroscopy. The theoretical framework of reflectance is reviewed, and a computational tool developed using GNU Octave is presented to model ER and ATR spectra. Simulating spectra demonstrates how ER spectra evolve to ATR spectra by modifying relevant parameters. This unified approach offers advanced students a deeper und… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
