Bridging the Gap in Adolescent Sexuality Education: Challenging Roles for Librarians

Abstract

A structured questionnaire was administered to 600 randomly selected students in six secondary schools in the Local Government Area to determine adolescent sexual behavior, teens' knowledge on sexuality issues, and the preferred information source of sexuality among senior secondary school students in Ife Central Local Government Area of Osun State, Nigeria. It was determined that secondary school students in this area are highly sexually active, with unfortunately very low knowledge on sexuality issues; therefore, teacher librarians must take the challenge and join hands with parents and other relevant stakeholders in order to bridge this knowledge gap.
