Broadband Frequency-Selective Spoof Surface Plasmon Polaritons on Ultrathin Metallic Structure

Abstract: We propose an ultrathin metallic structure to produce frequency-selective spoof surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) in the microwave and terahertz frequencies. Designed on a thin dielectric substrate, the ultrathin metallic structure is composed of two oppositely oriented single-side corrugated strips, which are coupled to two double-side corrugated strips. The structure is fed by a traditional coplanar waveguide (CPW). To make a smooth conversion between the spatial modes in CPW and SPP modes, two transition se… Show more

“…Moreover, the complementary approach reported in [3] emphasized the role of the waveguides for the analysis of the physical principles of operation, which in fact were suggested several years earlier in [4]. Since then, the search for new possibilities to exploit the similarities between grooved metal structures and the true SPPs has been an extremely active area of research [5], [6]. For example, graded rectangular [7], thin rectangular [8], and trapezoidal grooved structures [9], [10], among others, have been proposed.…”

“…To inherit most of the amazing features of SPPs to lower frequencies, researchers have proposed some solutions by etching metal surfaces with periodic grooves or holes to support similar high-confined surface waves, named spoof surface plasmon polaritons(SSPPs) [6][7][8][9]. Thereafter, a series of efforts have been conducted to put the SSPPs into practical uses by constructing smooth bridges between traditional transmission lines and SSPPs waveguide [10,11], the development of SSPPs filters [12,13], waves splitters [14], amplifiers, and other passive and active functional devices in the microwave and terahertz frequencies.…”
