Broadband OPCPA system with 11 mJ output at 1 kHz, compressible to 12 fs

Abstract: We report on a broadband OPCPA system, pumped at 515 nm by frequency doubled Yb:YAG thin disk lasers. The system delivers 11.3 mJ pulses at a central wavelength of 800 nm with a spatial beam quality of M2 = 1.25 and > 25% pump-to-signal conversion efficiency. The broadband pulses were demonstrated to be compressible to 12 fs using a chirped mirror compressor.

“…ELI Beamlines is a part of the European ELI (Extreme Light Infrastructure) project, developing cutting-edge laser systems for user applications. The L1 Allegra laser system is an in-house development program to deliver 100 mJ laser pulses of < 15 fs pulse duration at ∼830 nm central wavelength and 1 kHz repetition rate [39]. This laser system can be used to drive a high-intensity XUV beamline based on HHG in gas targets [40,41].…”

“…The advent of compact table-top laser-driven pulsed X-ray sources (Korn et al, 2002;Zamponi et al, 2009;Uhlig et al, 2013) has enabled significant progress in time-resolved studies (Rischel et al, 1997;Rousse et al, 2001;Hauf et al, 2019;Lu et al, 2020) using mid-to high-power laser systems (e.g. Batysta et al, 2016). Such table-top sources offer researchers easier access to pulsed X-ray radiation, and important advantages such as improved temporal resolution compared with synchrotrons (Iqbal et al, 2014) and inherent synchronization between pump and probe beams.…”

Sun) advantage of diode-pumped solid-state lasers (DPSSLs) as pump source and delivers compressed pulses with peak power of 0.5 PW for each and at a repetition rate of 3.3 Hz [7] . OPCPA in noncollinear configuration is adopted primarily for the ultra-broadband gain bandwidth up to hundreds of nanometers, which support amplifications of few cycle pulses [8,9] . OPCPA has other advantages such as the large gain in a single pass, small thermal loading, and high contrast [10] .…”
