Through the lens of indigenous, Chinese, and European sources, this entry explores Brunei's growth into a regional power. It describes this history as portrayed in a mythological epic; the difficulty of tracing Brunei's history in Chinese sources; and the nature of Bruneian imperial expansion and its demise.
