BUNKER: A Blockchain-based trUsted VNF pacKagE Repository

Abstract: Current projects applying blockchain technology to enhance the trust of NFV environments do not consider the VNF repository. However, the blockchain's properties can enhance trust by allowing to verify a VNF package's integrity without relying (a) on a Trusted Third Party (TTP) for remote attestation or (b) a secure database. This paper presents BUNKER, a Blockchain-based trUsted VNF packagE Repository, intended to be integrated with traditional database-based package verification environments, acting as a tru… Show more

“…This enables local authentication without the need for authentication from the cloud, hence improving the latency at the same time providing traceability. Similar works can be found for cloud computing [58], NFV [111] and SDN [112] in the literature that makes use of Blockchain-enabled authentication to overcome several challenges.…”

“…According to the authors, blockchain technology brings enhanced security and privacy features without a negative impact on the performance of the slice broker. Authors of [80] describe a Blockchainbased trUsted VNF packagE Repository (BUNKER). According to the authors, a blockchain-based BUNKER allows verifying VNF package integrity without the involvement of a trusted third party.…”

“…Regarding VNFs, BUNKER, was proposed [29] to provide a trusted BC-based repository containing VNF package information. [29] uses BC-based SCs for package licensing and verification system. For the licensing, the SC emits events when a license is acquired and the verification system stores hashes of packages published into the BC.…”
