The Degree Certificates are giving reference to the joint programme. The doctoral candidates are jointly supervised, and must pass a joint examination procedure set up by the three institutions issuing the degrees. Calvillo Muñoz 2 2 LITERATURE REVIEW This chapter presents the identification of energy systems task, corresponding to the smart city energy model methodology described in section 1.3. This includes the evaluation of energy systems available in a smart city, assessing their importance and possible synergies, in addition to the review of the existing models and tools, to select which ones could be used. The first part of the chapter introduces an overview of energy related work on planning and operation models within the smart city by classifying their scope into five main intervention areas. These areas are generation, storage, infrastructure, facilities, and transport. Then, more complex urban energy models integrating more than one intervention area are reviewed, outlining their advantages and limitations, existing trends and challenges, as well as some relevant smart cities applications. With this revision, important elements and possible synergies in the smart city are identified, and a framework for developing a comprehensive smart city energy model is proposed, along with some additional recommendations. Therefore, the main contributions of this chapter are, first, a comprehensive literature review of smart city energy systems and related modelling tools, classifying them in five intervention areas, and second, a framework with guidelines and recommendations for developing a comprehensive smart city energy model.

Abstract-This paper provides an initial feedback from an intensive, multidisciplinary, and collaborative project implemented in France in higher engineering education through a case study on electric go-kart conception. This kind of project was proposed during 2 successive academic years in collaboration with an industrial partner who is currently a relevant expert in the field. The project consisted in designing, developing, and validating the operation of several electric go-karts within 56 hours of teaching only. Several groups of approximately 10 4 th -year university students were involved in this new projectbased learning (PBL) approach. This article points out knowledge and skills that the learners had to acquire at the end of the project, and the methods of assessment. In particular, an innovative oral communication based on a theatrical oral session was tested. The various steps in the project development, management, and the interactions with the students, the teachers and the industrial partner are highlighted. Qualitative and quantitative data were extracted from the transcript of grades and the satisfaction surveys. All results demonstrate that the students were encouraged to become active throughout the project. They developed particularly co-operative and collaborative competencies, and critical thinking skills. Although this experience is overwhelmingly positive for the teaching staff, the worse part of the project consisted in developing efficient methods and tools both to organize the project, and evaluate the students' knowledge and skills. As a consequence, a preparatory phase was absolutely necessary to warrant the success of the project.

RésuméCet article propose un retour d'expériences d'une nouvelle approche pédagogique de l'enseignement de l'électronique et du génie électrique menée au sein de Polytech Tours (école d'ingénieurs). Cette approche est fondée sur un projet intensif (trois semaines consécutives à plein temps dédiées à l'étude et à la réalisation d'un système industriel) réalisée de manière collective (33 élèves ingénieurs répartis en 3 groupes de 11 étudiants).L'étude a consisté à procéder à l'électrification d'un châssis de kart et à rendre le véhicule électrique performant.Les élèves ingénieurs ont entre autre justifié tous les éléments composant le système de motorisation, assemblé toutes les pièces du kart électrique, testé le bon fonctionnement de ce dernier et apporté une innovation technologique autour de la récupération d'énergie cinétique au freinage par l'intermédiaire de supercondensateurs. Cette initiative, fortement appréciée des étudiants puisque chacun d'entre eux a joué un rôle actif dans la réalisation du projet, a en outre été saluée par la presse locale et régionale.
