Business process management systems in port processes: a systematic literature review

Abstract: Business Process Management Systems (BPMS) represent a technology that automates business processes, connecting users to their tasks. There are many business processes within the port activity that can be improved through the use of more efficient technologies and BPMS in particular, which can help to coordinate and automate critical processes such as cargo manifests, customs declaration the management of scales, or dangerous goods, traditionally supported by EDI technologies. These technologies could be integ… Show more

“…The exact and correct application of the bibliometric methodology to the set of works that conform to the research conducted on a particular subject of study requires the examination of the main variables relating to the bibliometric research. Following the proposals exhibited in the literature ( [24,26,28] among others), the selection of the leading indices to analyse in the bibliometric study of any area of knowledge can revolve around the following items [29,30]: The research data used in this paper were downloaded from the WoS Core Collection database, which comprises several sub-databases. We concentrated on data provided by the WoS, which only includes the most influential journals with the highest standards [31], following previous studies [18].…”

“…Moreover, some authors recommend concentrating knowledge transfer on digital skills, business knowledge, social skills, sustainability, and supply chain management [56] . Also, future research could explore the integration of information technologies for process automation, focusing specifically on business process automation and its implications for human resource management [57] , [45] . This line of inquiry would entail examining how automation technologies, coupled with knowledge of information systems, can be leveraged to enhance task coordination and operational efficiency within port environments.…”

“…KM involves developing mechanisms that support the flow of knowledge necessary for software to automate tasks (Nakash and Bouhnik, 2021). One of the latest types of software available for automating process management is the business process management system (BPMS) (Martín-Navarro et al , 2018, 2020). This tool comprises a set of activities through which information and knowledge are transferred, converted and generated, often tacitly among group members (Nunes et al , 2009).…”
