Abstract

Busulfan/cytarabine/fludarabine Bacterial pneumonia: case reportIn a single-institute, retrospective study involving 33 patients who received cord blood transplantation (CBT) between January 2014 and December 2018, a patient [age and sex not stated] was described, who developed bacterial pneumonia following treatment with busulfan, cytarabine and fludarabine as myeloablative conditioning regimen.The patient, who had unspecified haematological malignancy, was scheduled to receive a CBT. The patient received myeloablative conditioning regimen comprising fludarabine 30 mg/m 2 /day from day -7 to -2 (total 180 mg/m 2 ), IV busulfan 3.2 mg/kg/day from day -7 to -4 (total 12.8 mg/kg) and cytarabine 4 g/m 2 /day from day -3 to -2 (total 8 g/m 2 ) [not all routes stated], along with total body irradiation. The patient also received ciclosporin [cyclosporine], sodium valproate, ursodeoxycholic acid, aciclovir [acyclovir], unspecified azoles and unspecified low molecular weight heparin concomitantly. Subsequently, the patient developed CTCAE grade 5 bacterial pneumonia and died on day 23 after CBT [times to reaction onset not clearly stated].
