“…Τέλος, ιδιαίτερο ερευνητικό ενδιαφέρον έχει προκαλέσει η σχέση γλυκοκορτικοειδών και πρωτοογκογονιδίου c-fos, καθώς είναι γνωστό ότι τα γλυκοκορτικοειδή παίζουν σημαντικό ρόλο στην κυτταρική αύξηση και διαφοροποίηση ενός μεγάλου αριθμού βιολογικών συστημάτων, διαδικασίες στις οποίες εμπλέκονται και τα κυτταρικά πρωτοογκογονίδια. Έτσι, έχει βρεθεί ότι το πρωτοογκογονίδιο c-fos επάγεται από τα γλυκοκορτικοειδή σε καλλιέργειες οστικών κυττάρων (Birek, Huang, Birek & Tenenbaum, 1991;Shalhoub et al, 1992), όπως επίσης ότι τα γλυκοκορτικοειδή αυξάνουν τα επίπεδα του mRNA του c-fos σε κύτταρα θύμου αδένα (Sikora, Grassilli, Bellesia, Troiano & Franceschi, 1993), σε μακροφάγα (Busso, Collari, Vassalli & Beliti, 1987) και σε κύτταρα από όγκους υπόφυσης (Lin et al, 1992).
