“…Brehm et al 2019;Cárdenas et al 2013;Elías-Gutiérrez et al 2008;Guo et al 2016;Huemer et al 2020;Léger et al 2020;Tyagi et al 2017;Yang et al 2016), including Trichoptera (Kučinić et al 2016(Kučinić et al , 2017(Kučinić et al , 2019aSzivák et al 2017;Santos et al 2016;Valladolid et al 2018Valladolid et al , 2019Vitecek et al 2020). In many studies, DNA barcoding has aided morphological identification of different taxa (Ćukušić et al 2017;Kučinić et al 2019bKučinić et al , 2020, but also enabled the discovery of new species (Brehm et al 2019;Dela Cruz et al 2016;Graf et al 2012;Kučinić et al 2013;Léger et al 2020;Tyagi et al 2017;Vaglia et al 2008). Although there are no generally accepted values for genetic differences within DNA barcode region among various species, for animals it is considered that an intraspecific genetic distance of more than 2% between populations is high intraspecific variability within the same species (Hebert et al 2003b).…”

“…A faunistically very interesting finding from the family Limnephilidae is Mesophylax aspersus (Rambur, 1842) in the Špilja spring, near the town of Rabac, in the Mediterranean part of Croatia, the second finding for this region (Malicky, 1979). M. aspersus was recorded for the first time in Croatia at the beginning of the 20 th century on the island of Hvar with two collected specimens, deposited in the collection of Pater Gabriel Strobl in the Admont museum in Austria (Kučinić et al, 2019b;Malicky, 1979). Two DNA barcoded specimens of M. aspersus from the Špilja spring are compatible with the data of this species in the BOLD database with the high percentages of 99.38% and 100%, respectively (Tab.…”

“…Each year thousands of new species within various groups of organisms are described, and the introduction of DNA barcoding based on the cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 mitochondrial gene (mtCOI), along with the establishment of the Barcode of Life Data Systems (BOLD) (Hebert et al, 2003a(Hebert et al, , 2003bRatnasingham & Hebert, 2007) resulted in new aspects of global biodiversity on Earth. DNA barcoding has proved to be a useful method in studies of the taxonomy, phylogenesis, phylogeography and biodiversity of different groups of organisms (for example Amora et al 2015;Brehm et al, 2019;Cárdenas et al, 2013;De Barros Machado et al, 2017;Dela Cruz et al, 2016;Elías-Gutiérrez et al, 2008;Guo et al, 2016;Huemer et al, 2020;Kučinić et al, 2019aKučinić et al, , 2019bLéger et al, 2020;Pauls et al, 2009;Santos et al 2016;Tyagi et al, 2017;Vaglia et al 2008;Vijayan & Tsou, 2010;Yang et al, 2015).…”

“…200 caddisfly species have been recorded (Ćuk & Vučković 2009(Ćuk & Vučković , 2010Graf et al 2008a;Kučinić 2002;Kučinić & Ilić 1993a, 1993bKučinić & Malicky 2002;Kučinić et al 1999Kučinić et al , 2000Kučinić et al , 2011Malicky 2009;Malicky & Krušnik 1988;Malicky et al 2007;Previšić & Popijač 2010;Previšić et al 2007aPrevišić et al , 2007bPrevišić et al , 2014Urbanič et al 2000;Waringer et al 2009). In the last few years the DNA barcoding method has been included in many studies of the caddisfly fauna of Croatia (Ćukušić, 2019;Ćukušić et al 2017;Kučinić et al 2013Kučinić et al , 2019aKučinić et al , 2019bKučinić et al , 2019cKučinić et al , 2020aKučinić et al , 2020b The objectives of this paper were to determine faunistic features of caddisflies (1), caddisfly ecology and distribution in the study area (2) and give a note on results of the DNA barcoding of some species (3).…”
