Calcifications at Digital Breast Tomosynthesis: Imaging Features and Biopsy Techniques

Abstract: Full-field digital mammography (FFDM), the standard of care for breast cancer screening, has some limitations. With the advent of digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT), improvements including decreased recall rates and increased cancer detection rates have been observed. The quasi-three-dimensional capability of DBT reduces breast tissue overlap, a significant limitation of FFDM. However, early studies demonstrate that a few cancers detected at FFDM may not be diagnosed at DBT-only screening, and lesions with cal… Show more

“…Breast cancer develops from breast tissue identified by lump in the breast and there are some changes in normal conditions [5]. Clinical screening includes mammography [6], breast ultrasound [7], biopsy [8] and other method. A biopsy [8] is the only diagnostic procedure that can definitely determine if the suspicious area is cancerous.…”

A biopsy [8] is the only diagnostic procedure that can definitely determine if the suspicious area is cancerous. The pathologists diagnose by visual inspection of histological slides under the microscope, which is considered as confirmatory gold standard for diagnosis [9].…”
