Calculating level-specific SEM fit indices for multilevel mediation analyses

Abstract: Stata’s gsem command provides the ability to fit multilevel structural equation models (SEM) and related multilevel models. A motivating example is provided by multilevel mediation analyses (MA) conducted on patient data from Methadone Maintenance Treatment clinics in China. Multilevel MA conducted through the gsem command examined the mediating effects of patients’ treatment progression and rapport with counselors on their treatment satisfaction. Multilevel models accounted for the clustering of patient obser… Show more

“…Population error measurement reveals that root mean squared error of approximation = 0.076, close to 0.05, lower bound of 90% Confident interval = 0.071, close to 0.05, upper bound of 90% = 0.081, less than 0.1 and pclose = 0.000, less than the suggested threshold of 0.05 (see Table 5). Thus, the population error indices of the SEM model used in this work (see Figure 2) are regarded as having a good fit (Comulada, 2021). On the other hand, the evaluation of baseline comparison reveals that the values of the Tucker–Lewis index (TLI) and comparative fit index (CFI) are both near to or equal to 1.…”

“…Significance of direct and indirect effect was determined with the lower and upper limits of 95% confidence interval (CI) bootstrap sample of 5000 (Chung et al, 2022; Lv, Wu, et al, 2021). Model fit was evaluated by goodness of fit indices which included χ 2 /df (acceptable fit < 3, the comparative fit index [CFI], acceptable fit ≥ 0.90) and the root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA, acceptable fit ≤ 0.08) (Comulada, 2021). Figure 1 the model presents the direct and indirect effect that we adopted in this current study.…”

“…Once the temporal association between severe sleep apnea and CHD had been established, mediation models were constructed to examine whether the association between severe sleep apnea and CHD was respectively mediated by metabolic factors and CRP [15]. The causal steps approach based on the inf luential work proposed by Baron and Kenny was conducted to investigate the effect of severe sleep apnea on the incidence of CHD partially mediated through metabolic factors and CRP.…”
