Calculating the Sample Size in Quantitative Studies

Abstract: The determination of the required sample size is always an important step during the planning of the quality of research for a quantitative study. The researchers need to have sound prerequisite knowledge of the inferential statistics concept for determining a minimum sample size requirement and its estimation because an insufficient sample size may not be able to answer the research questions and a large sample is wastage of resources, may add to the complexity, and take more time for the study. Both situatio… Show more

“…Pregnant women who were eligible for the study were recruited through convenience sampling. The sample size calculation was based on the Cochran 1963 sample size formula ( ) [ 33 ], with a 95% confidence interval, 5% acceptable sample error and malaria prevalence of 10% among pregnant women. The minimum sample size required for the study was calculated as 138.…”

“…This formula can be used to estimate the ideal sample size when the population is limited, and the researchers lack sufficient details on the behavioral distribution of the population. 13 The informed consent procedure was used to obtain respondents' permission to participate in the study. The study took place online from July 2021 until September 2021.…”
