Calibrating the Impacts of Regional Trade Integration and Renewable Energy Transition on the Sustainability of International Inbound Tourism Demand in South Asia

Abstract: This paper aims to evaluate the overarching relationships between International Inbound Tourism Demand (IITD), regional trade integration and Renewable Energy Transition (RET) in the context of selected South Asian economies between 1990 and 2016. The results from the panel data econometric analyses, accounting for cross-sectional dependency and slope heterogeneity issues, showed that higher degrees of intra-regional trade between the South Asian economies exert positive impacts on the IITD in South Asia. “…Ignoring such CSD issues could lead to the estimation of biased and inconsistent stationarity and cointegrating properties [65]. Hence, following Murshed et al [66,67], the Pesaran [68] CSD test is used to check for CSD. This method is chosen because of its capacity to handle datasets with small cross-sectional units and finite time dimensions.…”

“…Moreover, fragile infrastructure, lack of political will to invest in welfare systems, climate vulnerabilities, and the vast numbers of populations in Asia’s continent make it a provocative case to examine. At the same time, energy consumption trends in Asian economies are critical to the environment (Murshed et al, b ).…”
