Can Dark Energy Neutralize the Global Warming?

Abstract

Global warming is a present hazard threatening human life on earth, disturbing the ecological balance of the whole universe. In this context, we investigate, in this problem, the relation of dark energy, if there is any, with such a dangerous warming scenario. We try to see whether dark energy can be helpful in solving such an alarming problem and can it reduce or neutralize such a hazard by interacting with the different factors causing global warming. In our study, we first try to find out some types of energy which can make the universe expand faster than the present rate so that it helps in cooling it down and it is found that some of this types of energy will be transformed into dark energy. It is also seen that there is a real interaction between the dark energy and the energy produced by other the components of the universe. And there is possibility that some part of the dark energy contained in this universe can be transformed into other forms of energy so that their reaction with the other components of the universe is such that the global pressure decreases and the energy causing most amount of heat be decreased. Also, our study shows that the kind of dark energy which can neutralize global warming is in the form of quintessence.Keywords Global warming, Dark energy, Greenhouse effect, Radiation, Conservation of energy.I. INTRODUCTION It is no wonder that the universe undergoes through cycles of warm and cold periods, and we are now probably in the middle of a warm period. Thinking of global warming, it can be visualized that even though on a thousand years time scale, we are heading towards higher temperature, on a one lakh year time scale, we are actually heading for another cold era. From history, it seems that the cycles of warm and cold eras occur approximately every one lakh year.In the natural process, radiation from the sun is absorbed by the earth and global energy balance is maintained by re-radiating this energy to space as infra red or long wave radiation. The intervening atmosphere absorbs and emits the long wave radiation. But, the whole energy emitted by the surface does not escape to space. As the earth's surface is hotter than the atmosphere, more energy is absorbed by the atmosphere than it emits upward to space. Thus, the energy trapped in the atmosphere causes greenhouse effect which plays a considerable role in global warming. Deep knowledge about greenhouse effect is interesting as it concerns feedbacks among the various elements of the climate system and these feedbacks seem to play a good role in enhancing or diminishing small external perturbations in the radiation balance of the universe.The global warming may be also due to the accelerated expansion of the universe (partly), thus, indirectly depending on the dark energy, as the presence of dark energy is the main cause of the accelerating expansion.
