Summary For the first time, this paper investigates the relationship between crowdfunding and renewable energy generation for a panel of 32 countries from 2013 to 2018. Applying the instrumental variable generalised method of moment, this study indicated that crowdfunding has a significant positive effect on renewable energy generation. Notably, 1% increase in crowdfunding raises renewable energy generation by 0.35%. Specifically, we also found that crowdfunding spurs the generation of solar energy (0.45%), wind energy (0.37%), and other renewable energy (0.30%) while having a neutral effect on hydroelectricity generation. The findings from the causality analysis showed that there is bi‐directional causality between crowdfunding and renewable energy generation. Country‐specific analysis indicated that China has the highest effect of crowdfunding on renewable energy generation, while the United Arab Emirates has the lowest effect. These findings suggest that policymakers need to advance crowdfunding development by promoting favourable regulations, social capital (trust), and internet infrastructure investment. Policies that advance renewable energy generation, such as subsidies, feed‐in‐tariffs, and technology procurement, are also recommended. Highlights Examines the effect of crowdfunding on renewable energy generation. Use a panel of 32 countries from 2013 to 2018. Crowdfunding drives renewable energy generation. There exists bi‐directional causality between crowdfunding and renewable energy generation. China has the highest effect of crowdfunding on renewable energy generation. NOVELTY STATEMENT This study has, for the first time, measured the contributions of crowdfunding to renewable energy generation. The study has also demonstrated that there exists bi‐directional causality between crowdfunding and renewable energy generation. Finally, this study has shown that China has the highest effect of crowdfunding on renewable energy generation.

China is gradually changing its pursuit of rapid economic growth into a pursuit of economic development quality. In this context, whether "cyberpower" and "digital China" strategies are truly conducive to China's sustainable development still needs to be further tested. This paper constructs China's provincial information and communication technology (ICT) comprehensive development level index from the four dimensions of penetration, coverage, information resources, and business and then innovatively undertakes a theoretical framework integrating ICT, environmental regulations, and green total factor energy efficiency (GTFEE) for the analysis. Using panel data from China's 30 provincial administrative regions from 2006 to 2017, this study explores the direct impact, moderating effect, nonlinear relationship, and regional differences of ICT development on GTFEE. It is indicated that ICT development plays a positive role in promoting GTFEE and that this role is moderated by environmental regulations. The regression results of the dynamic threshold model indicate that diverse environmental regulation intensities lead to different influences of ICT development on GTFEE. Moreover, the impact of ICT development on GTFEE is heterogeneous among different regions. Specifically, the western region may gain more benefits from ICT development by virtue of the late-mover advantage.

The digital divide is one of the problems faced by the government since the COVID-19 pandemic occurred. All face-to-face activities in all development sectors are transferred online. The unpreparedness of communication technology infrastructure in Indonesia is one of the obstacles to online learning activities that require a stable internet connection, even in urban areas that already have communication infrastructure with 5G networks. However, it turns out that the problem is not only with infrastructure, what is more important than that is the opportunity and ability of the community to use communication technology. In this study, researchers limit research to only discussing the challenges of the digital divide in the online learning process during the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia with research locations in three districts in West Java in 2020-2021. This research uses a qualitative approach, an exploratory paradigm, in a case study perspective. The data collection process was carried out under natural conditions in the form of observation, in-depth interviews and documentation studies. This study concludes that collaboration between government officials and the community has a positive impact on people's opportunities to carry out online learning processes during the COVID-19 pandemic. The challenges of the digital divide faced during the digital learning process can be partially overcome by collaboration between the government, the community and the private sector, although the approach taken is different at each research location.
