Can Patients With Relapsed, Previously Untreated, Stage I Epithelial Ovarian Cancer Be Successfully Treated With Salvage Therapy?

Abstract: We have shown that some patients with stage I EOC can be successfully treated with a salvage chemotherapy regimen after a policy of observation only. Interestingly, approximately 30% of stage I patients who die within 10 years do so from causes other than EOC (OS, 72%; DSS, 80%). Our findings need to be taken into consideration when the results from recent randomized trials of adjuvant chemotherapy in this patient population (International Collaborative Ovarian Neoplasm Trial 1/European Organization for Resear… Show more

“…6 In contrast, patients with high-risk (stage IA-IB grade 3, stage IC, stage II), early-stage ovarian cancer appear to benefit from adjuvant chemotherapy. 1,[7][8][9][10] The benefit of chemotherapy for subsets of patients with early-stage ovarian cancer has subsequently been confirmed in several trials. 3,10,11 Although there is general consensus about the use of adjuvant chemotherapy in high-risk early-stage patients, there is debate about the optimal duration of chemotherapy.…”

“…Все больные получали адъювантную хи миотерапию и рецидивы заболевания по ка не обнаружены. Положительная роль адъювантной химиотерапии препаратами платины доказана в исследованиях ICON 1, EORTCI ACTION 2002 для групп боль ных с высоким риском развития рецидива или псевдомиксомы брюшины [23].…”
