“…In addition, from the perspective of economic significance, the 6.6% increase in ULGUE following the implementation of EPIL exceeds the findings from the existing literature on the impact of policies such as low-carbon city construction (2.58%) and free trade zone construction (5.71%), reflecting a positive impact of EPIL policy on ULGUE [ 36 , 40 ]. Increasingly, public environmental concern and related judicial system reforms in developing countries are playing a key role in environmental pollution control [ 28 , 41 43 ]. Indeed, as per the official summary of the EPIL pilot work by the Supreme People’s Procuratorate of China, as of June 2017, the procuratorial organs in the pilot areas had handled 6,527 public interest litigation cases in ecological environment and resource protection; mandated restoring 129,000 hectares of polluted and damaged farmland, forest land, wetlands, and grasslands and more than 180 square kilometers of polluted water sources; and required more than 1,700 illegal enterprises to make rectifications.…”

“…Consequently, we utilized the ratio of total employees in urban water, environmental, and public facilities management sectors to the overall urban employment as a proxy for measuring pollution control talent (PCT). Moreover, for this study, drawing on existing research, we used the green space ratio in built-up urban areas as a metric for urban green areas (GLA) [45], applied the Baidu index search engine to gauge the frequency of "environmental pollution" keyword searches by residents of various prefectural-level cities over the years as an indicator of public environmental concern (CON) [46,47], and measured the residential waste management rate (RBU) using the proportion of city's processed residential waste to its generated amount [48].…”

“…The effective execution of environmental governance is a concern for stakeholders. According to ecofeminist theory, it has been suggested that women are better equipped to be in harmony with nature and accept responsibility (W. Du, Li, Fan, & Liang, 2023;Villalba-Ríos, Barroso-Castro, Vecino-Gravel, & Villegas-Periñan, 2023). Enterprises must prioritize fulfilling social responsibilities while also pursuing economic benefits through scientific and technological innovation.…”
