Cancer Detection and Prediction Using Genetic Algorithms

Abstract: Cancer is a wide category of diseases that is caused by the abnormal, uncontrollable growth of cells, and it is the second leading cause of death globally. Screening, early diagnosis, and prediction of recurrence give patients the best possible chance for successful treatment. However, these tests can be expensive and invasive and the results have to be interpreted by experts. Genetic algorithms (GAs) are metaheuristics that belong to the class of evolutionary algorithms. GAs can find the optimal or near-optim… Show more

“…One of the main contributions of this work is applying a standard Genetic Algorithm (GA) to optimize each CNN layer in the models. The GA layer is used to optimize the weights in the CNN layer, which in turn improves the accuracy of the classification models [25,26,27]. Each model is trained and tested using three different encoding methods, label encoding, one-hot vector encoding, and finally using k-mer encoding.…”

“…e authors in [47][48][49][50][51][52][53] have developed a novel temporal attention encoder-decoder model, called MTSMFF, for multivariate time series. e authors in [58] have used genetic algorithms for detection and prediction of cancer and critically analysed the state-of-the-art techniques used for cancer research. e authors in [59] have implemented a model with machine learning techniques such as support vector machine, logistic regression, and K-nearest neighbor (KNN) in breast cancer classification.…”
