Abstract

Overview The advances in state‐of‐the‐art nanotechnologies have offered exciting opportunities to overcome many obstacles that contribute to the high mortality and recurrence of cancer, such as suboptimal pharmacokinetics and therapeutic efficacy of anticancer drugs, severe adverse effects, development of drug resistance, and cancer metastases. Here, we highlight the clinical stage nanoparticle technologies applied in conventional cancer therapies and for the development of novel classes of anticancer therapeutics. We also discuss recent cutting‐edge research efforts in this exciting field, which could lead to more effective therapeutic nanoparticles for cancer treatment.
