Cancer Stem Cell Characteristics by Network Analysis of Transcriptome Data Stemness Indices in Breast Carcinoma

Abstract: Objective. Breast cancer (BC) affects women all over the world. This study aimed at screening out potential biomarkers through performing an in-depth analysis of data from the previous research and database. Design. This study made full use of RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) data from cancer genomic maps (TCGA) and screened key genes related to stemness by merging WGCNA with BC mRNAsi. Results. The related mRNAsi data were downloaded, and the transcriptional levels of mRNAsi in cancers contrasted with normal samples.… Show more

“…Also, mRNAsi is closely associated with various clinical characteristics. Prior studies suggest that altered expression of mRNAsi in tissue can serve as a biomarker for identifying differentially expressed genes in cancer prognosis research [ 35 , 45 ].…”

“…Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in women and is the leading cause of death worldwide [1]. In recent years, several studies have demostrated that the population of breast cancer stem cells (BCSCs) play a pivotal role in influencing therapy resistance, recurrence, and metastasis of breast cancer [2]. BCSCs are a subpopulation of cancer cells that exhibit characteristics similar to normal stem cells but possess a high tumorigenicity [3].…”

“…Furthermore, uncovering regulatory interactions specific to CSCs is crucial for illustrating the complex molecular mechanism inside the CSC population that led to gaining the stemness properties. Also, the deep insight of the CSC interaction network opens the door to designing network-based therapeutic approaches that enable targeting the entire regulatory network instead of targeting a single element ( 17 ).…”
