“…Although the complex tectonic and volcanic history of the region and the large geographical distance (>500 km) between MAN and the other mountain ranges may have contributed to their split, our results suggest that this ancient event only partially explains the observed phylogeographical structure among cloud forest areas, which instead appears to have been generated by more recent events. The phylogenetic difference between MAN ( M. jaliscana according to Ramírez‐Roa & Varela Hernández ) and the other geographical groups of Moussonia may have resulted from the old divergence of MAN from other Moussonia populations and geographical isolation. Nevertheless, the genetic difference of MAN populations from other geographical groups of Moussonia includes few mutations and little cpDNA haplotype sharing.…”

“…S1, Supporting information). Recently, described species (Ramírez‐Roa ,b; Ramírez‐Roa & Varela Hernández ) may be part of a species complex with M. deppeana and therefore are particularly well suited for evaluating genetic differentiation and population genetic structure using a phylogeographical approach. Moussonia deppeana is the most widely distributed species of the genus (Wiehler ) and is used locally for medicinal purposes to cure gastrointestinal ailments (Castillo‐Juárez et al .…”

“…En México, los estudios que emplean caracteres morfológicos y anatómicos para delimitar especies vegetales son numerosos (Cosa et al, 2002;Ramírez-Roa y Varela, 2011;Sánchez et al, 2013;Gutiérrez et al, 2017;Pérez-Atilano et al, 2018). Específicamente para los caracteres de la madera, Terrazas y Wendt (1995) buscaron diferencias entre las especies del género Tapirira Aubl.…”
