“…An attractive light emitting material for use in LECs is carbon quantum dots (CQDs) due to efficient visible light emissions with tunable band gaps (Yuan et al, 2018 ; Qin et al, 2019 ; Chen et al, 2020a ). First discovered in 2004 (Xu et al, 2004 ), CQDs are small sp 2 and sp 3 containing carbon particles that have been defined as having sizes below 20 nm, low toxicity, strong chemical stability and a resistance to photobleaching (Gan et al, 2016 ; Hu et al, 2019 ; Chen et al, 2020b ). This study will use ECL spectroscopy to evaluate CQD's electron and hole transport mechanisms and the efficiency of radiative recombination for applications in optoelectronic.…”

“…CNDs have disclosed interesting features as nanomaterials for photoinduced electron transfer and ECL. In the last one, CNDs have demonstrated their ability to act as co-reactants [ 142 ], which is why this nanomaterial is widely used in the development of ECL biosensors [ 143 ].…”

“…This, occasionally, results in reduced stability in the immunosensor. Further specific tailoring of the CQDs functionalities is needed (Chen et al, 2020 ; Zhong et al, 2020 ).…”

“…Here we highlighted the most recent advanced procedures on the luminescence features of CQDs. Alternatively, based on easy modifications with antigens and antibodies and good conductivity of CQDs one can develop electrochemical and electrochemiluminescence (ECL) studies toward various detecting proposes including immunoassay sensing (Zhou et al, 2014 ; Chen et al, 2020 ). This approach can be further expanded in solid-state electrochemical and ECL investigations by employing surface functionalities of CQDs and generate background free signals toward detection.…”
