Carbon content evolution in austenite during austenitization studied by in situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction of a hypoeutectoid steel

Abstract: Using in situ high energy X-ray diffraction study of austenite formation in hypoeutectoid steel with three different initial microstructures (ferrite-pearlite, tempered martensite and bainite), the lattice parameters of ferrite, cementite and austenite are examined on heating at 0.25, 10 and 100 °C/s. The lattice parameters of ferrite, cementite and austenite do not vary linearly with the temperature, especially, in the temperature range where the austenitization takes place. For the austenite, it is suggested… Show more

“…Consequently, the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of the 06CV steel is calculated as 2.2641 × 10 −5 K −1 , which is consistent with previous studies [ 6 , 40 , 41 , 42 , 43 ] showing CTEs in the range of 2.0–2.5 (×10 −5 K −1 ) independent of the initial microstructure and chemical composition.…”

“…O comportamento de formação da austenita em duas etapas condiz com o observado por outros autores [68,76,[100][101][102][103][104][105] para aços ARBL, geralmente compostos de uma microestrutura inicial mista de ferrita e perlita. No caso do aço JFE, como discutido anteriormente, o agregado eutetóide assemelha-se à perlita não lamelar.…”
