Abstract:The article provides a brief and general overview of the chemical and physical properties of carbon, as it relates to inorganic chemistry. Several allotropic forms of carbon are described, with general properties discussed. The characteristics and synthetic methods for the preparation of simple compounds involving carbon or carbon and hydrogen with halogens, oxygen, sulfur, as well as nitrogen, are provided.
