Cardiac Doppler in patients with primary varicose veins of lower extremities

Abstract: Aim This study examines the characteristics of cardiac Doppler in patients with primary varicose veins of lower extremities. Material and methods We performed retrospective descriptive statistical analysis of cardiac Doppler data of 85 patients with primary varicose veins and compared obtained parameters with normal values. Results Patients with primary varicose veins in comparison with normal controls have significantly lower early diastolic mitral and tricuspid inflow velocities (E wave), significantly highe… Show more

“…But, we excluded comorbidities that could directly affect the right heart diastolic function: previously diagnosed or revealed during our echocardiographic assessment relevant valvular diseases, wall motion abnormalities, and changes of heart chambers and walls. 14 One further and the main limitation of this study is that our tricuspid Doppler measurements were only a 'snapshot in time' of the endpoint of systemic venous return in patients with primary varicose veins in supine position. Thus, we cannot define whether the changes in tricuspid Doppler were permanent, temporary or posture dependent.…”

“…We have read with great interest the article published by Rusninovich Y and Rusinovich V and congratulate the authors for assessing and reporting the cardiac Doppler findings in patients with varicose vein (VV) for the first time. 1 They have examined the characteristics of cardiac Doppler in patients with primary VVs of lower extremities and compared them with normal subjects without VV. Patients with primary VVs in comparison with normal controls have impaired relaxation of right and left ventricles documented by lower early diastolic mitral and tricuspid inflow velocities.…”
