Cardiac tamponade as an initial manifestation of systemic lupus erythematosus in early childhood.

Abstract: Cardiac tamponade is rare as an initial manifestation of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and even more so in paediatric patients.

“…Our first case received a few weeks course of antituberculosis treatment that was discontinued after the negative tuberculosis culture, case 58 had a positive antideaminase test and received a 6 months course of antituberculosis treatment while case 911 received 1 year of antituberculosis treatment until SLE diagnosis was made after recurrent episodes of pericarditis and cardiac tamponade. Those three cases reflect the importance of complete laboratory investigation of pericardial fluid to avoid any potential risk of missing tuberculosis, and at the same time the importance of screening with ANA and anti-dsDNA titres for early recognition of SLE.…”

Les âges extrêmes [10,15,21,23] et la relative fréquence des sujets de sexe masculin [7,19,21,22] caractérisaient ces lupus révélés par une tamponnade, ce qui contribue encore plus à la difficulté diagnostique.
