Carob seed oil: an efficient inhibitor of C38 steel corrosion in hydrochloric acid

Abstract: Background The carob seed oil (CO) was tested as inhibitor of the corrosion of C38 steel in 1 M HCl by weight loss and electrochemical measurements. The extract was found to inhibit the corrosion of C38 steel in 1 M HCl. Results The results of the study reveal that the inhibition efficiency of CO depends on its concentration and attains approximately 86.7% at 0.5 g/L. Polarization curves reveal that CO is a mixed-type inhibitor. Changes in impedance par… Show more

“…On the other hand, Gad allah et al [31] pointed out that iron dissolution in HCl solution depends on the H + ion more than the Cl − ion. The corrosion rate of mild steel in hydrochloric acid solution involves hydrogen evolution reaction at the cathodic area and iron dissolution reaction at the anodic area as reported by Ben Hmamou et al [32]. The following mechanism for the corrosion of iron and steel in acid solution has been proposed [33][34][35].…”

“…Carob has been used for over 4000 years as feed and food, especially in times of food shortage, mainly due to its sugary pulp [11][12][13]. Carob kibbles are traditionally used to make a boiled juice product, named "pekmez," which is mainly consumed in Turkey [14][15][16][17]. About 8 percent of the high cholesterol sufferers know and use carob in Turkey.…”
