Carrierless amplitude and phase modulation in wireless visible light communication systems

Abstract: Visible light communications (VLCs) have attracted considerable interest in recent years owing to the potential to simultaneously achieve data transmission and illumination using low-cost light-emitting diodes (LEDs). However, the high-speed capability of such links is typically limited by the low bandwidth of LEDs. As a result, spectrally efficient advanced modulation formats have been considered for use in VLC links in order to mitigate this issue and enable higher data rates. Carrierless amplitude a… Show more

“…The typical single carrier (SC) methods, variable on-off keying ((V)OOK), pulse-width modulation (PWM), pulseamplitude modulation (PAM), carrierless amplitude phase modulation (CAP) [283], discrete Fourier transform (DFT)spread (DFT-s) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), variable pulse-position modulation ((V)PPM) and (single) edge position modulation ((S)EPM) [284], [285] are all quasi-directly applicable for VLP. They may even be more suited for light than radio wave carriers due to the more limited multipath interference experienced.…”

“…Visible light communication (VLC) or Light Fidelity (Li-Fi) have attracted a great interest in latest years in order to overcome the limited spectrum in radio frequency (RF) communications to fulfill the expanding interest for rapid communication interfaces between electronics and sensors, and to empower the vision of a profoundly interconnected world like Internet of Things (IoT), smart cities, smart homes and smart room (Bamiedakis et al 2020).…”
