Case study on the revitalization of the viaduct walkway on BR-010 located in the city of Imperatriz-Maranhão

Abstract

Structural deterioration is a complex problem that can compromise the safety and functionality of buildings, bridges, walkways and other structures. The damage found is diverse, including corrosion, as well as cracks and fissures at specific points. Throughout this article, the challenges faced in dealing with this problem have been discussed, highlighting the different techniques and technologies used for assessment, diagnosis and repair. The objective of this work was to carry out a case study on the revitalization of the footbridge on BR-010 in the city of Imperatriz. The research was carried out with a qualitative and quantitative nature of a descriptive nature, using the technical procedure of exploratory and bibliographical research. Thus, the present study addresses a work to revitalize a reinforced concrete walkway and studies on this topic to provide more basis for research. A technical analysis was carried out on site and it was found that the structure had many fissures, cracks and corrosion that compromised its functioning. These failures could cause the progressive deterioration of the walkway, making it more fragile and prone to accidents. Due to this fact, the structure's corrective maintenance process was used, so that it could return to its original state and not compromise the integrity of users.
