Translations are those of Cary's 1914Cary's -1927 Loeb Classical Library edition, with minor alterations. 1 There is, of course, the brief excursus giving Dio's view of 'democracy' (δημοκρατία) which punctuates the narrative of Caesar's assassination at 44.2, but this is noticeably brief in comparison to the account of the Augustan Settlement which occupies most of Books 52 and 53.
