Abstract:Juvenile guinea pigs developed cataracts during severe acute allergic (autoimmune) encephalomyelitis produced actively by injection of central nervous system antigens in complete Freund’s adjuvants. Cataracts were induced in immature guinea pigs by passive transfer of living lymph node cells from sensitized strain 13 donors to histocompatible recipients. Cataracts were not induced in adult guinea pigs either passively or actively.
