Objective: Ameloblastoma (AM) is a prevalent benign odontogenic tumor affecting the jaw bone. Its potential for recurrence and malignant transformation is closely associated with the regulation of signaling pathways. The objective of this study was to examine the expression and clinical significance of Notch1 in AM, along with exploring the correlation between Notch1 expression and AM imaging patterns. Methods: The streptavidin-peroxidase (S-P) immunohistochemical technique was employed to detect the expression of Notch1 protein in the oral mucosa of 70 AM patients and 25 normal controls. Additionally, the preoperative cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images of the patients were classified, and the results were analyzed in relation to the expression of Notch1 protein in AM. Results: The positive expression rate of Notch1 in the 70 AM patients was 74.29% (52/70), while the Notch1 expression rate in 26 oral mucosa patients was 19.23% (5/26), indicating a statistically significant difference (P < 0.05). The expression rate of Notch1 was 58.06% in single-room AM and lower in multi-room AM (85.29%) and honeycomb AM (100%) (P < 0.01). However, there was no significant difference in the expression rate of Notch1 between multi-room AM and honeycomb AM (P > 0.05). Conclusion: Notch1 may serve as an important diagnostic indicator in AM, and the apoptosis inhibition ability and cell proliferation ability of single-room AM are lower compared to those of the room and honeycomb types

This study was aimed to investigate the change of peri-implant bone mass after touch-controlled, minimally invasive implantationin mandibular first molar region by CBCT. This retrospective study was conducted, involving 60 implants mandibular first molar implant repairation. Touch-controlled, minimally invasive implantation was performed, and healing abutments were installed post-surgery. CBCT scans were obtained at four time points: on the day of surgery (T0), 1 month post-surgery (T1), 3 months (T2), and 6 months (T3). Implant retention was calculated. Measuring horizontal and vertical bone absorption at each time point, both bucco-lingually and in the proximal and distal regions. The implant retention at T3 was 100%. Bone resorption was observed at the proximal and distal sites of the implant as early as T1, with more noticeable resorption at T2 and T3. Compared to T1, there was a significant increase in bone resorption, and the resorption amount tended to stabilize by T3. Horizontal bone resorption was not evident. In a word, Following touch-controlled, minimally invasive implantation of mandibular first molars, peri-implant vertical bone resorption was observed in the proximal, distal, and bucco-lingual regions, while horizontal bone resorption was not apparent. These findings provide valuable guidance for implant clinicians in selecting optimal surgical techniques.

Use of CBCT in Orthodontics: A Scoping Review

Objectives: The present scoping review aims to provide a panoramic view of the current state of knowledge, highlighting the strengths, limitations, and future directions, on the use of CBCT in orthodontic practice. Methods: This study followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) guidelines to identify eligible studies from the following databases: PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science. The research question was formulated as follows: “What is the scientific evidence concerning the preferential use of 3D CBCT over 2D radiography in orthodontics”? Results: Through database searching, 521 records were identified, and ultimately, 37 studies that compared 3D CBCT with 2D conventional radiography were included. Of these, 16 articles regarded the use of CBCT for cephalometric analysis, 5 papers analyzed the evaluation of root resorption, 10 studies evaluated the diagnostic accuracy of root angulation and determining tooth position, and the remaining 6 articles were conducted for miscellaneous applications: determining the size of the nasopharyngeal airway (n = 2), miniscrew positioning (n = 1), estimating cervical vertebrae maturity (n = 1), and evaluating the correctness of the root location when placing digital indirect brackets (n = 1). Conclusions: The choice between 3D CBCT or CBCT-generated radiography and conventional 2D radiography in orthodontics involves careful consideration of the specific clinical context, the complexity of the case, and the balance between the diagnostic advantages and the associated limitations. Future Directions: Future studies with a prospective design and standardized imaging protocols are encouraged to facilitate the development of a consensus on the best practices.
