CCL2 single nucleotide polymorphism of rs1024611 implicates prominence of inflammatory cascade by univariate modeling in Indian AMD

Abstract: BackgroundThe role of chemotactic protein CCL2/MCP-1 has been widely explored in age related macular degeneration (AMD) patients as well as animal models through our previous studies.AimAim of the study was to examine the association of another variance of CCL2, rs1024611 in pathophysiology of AMD.MethodsThis particular SNP has been found to be involved in inflammatory processes in various diseases. Total 171 subjects were recruited in the study with all demographic details by administering a standard question… Show more

“…Studies have also shown that the combined effect of both alcohol consumption and smoking might further exacerbate the AMD pathology by influencing the activity of SOD (superoxide dismutase) and glutathione peroxidase activity [8]. Our previous reports have also defined the pathological role of oxidative stress [9], impaired angiogenesis [10,11] and inflammatory cascade (mediated through CCL2 and CCR3) [12][13][14]. Similar pathological hallmarks have also been exhibited by other degenerative diseases including AD, ALS etc.…”

“…The implementation of this module has led to enhanced visibility in the research. Research papers written from NRL provide sufficient data which shows that this quality module has improved the quality of data generated [4][5][6].…”

“…MCP-1 regulates the migration of monocytes/macrophages to tissues and is required for response to inflammation and routine immunological surveillance of tissues [26]. An A to G single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in the CCL2 enhancer region (rs1024611, originally designated as -2518G or -2578G) has been associated with several chronic inflammatory conditions such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and rheumatoid arthritis [26][27][28]. In the present study, no association was found between this polymorphism and the development of differentiation syndrome.…”
