Cefuroxime derived copper nanoparticles and their application as a colorimetric sensor for trace level detection of picric acid

Abstract: Picric acid is used as explosive material in destructive weapons and nuclear technology. Due to higher solubility in water it can create health issues and its monitoring is crucial for safer environment and health.

“…Another interesting application of CuNPs has been demonstrated toward the detection of picric acid in real water samples [64]. 30-nm CuNPs have been synthesized by using cefuroxime drug as a protecting agent: the amide group of cefuroxime takes part in coordination with CuNPs, preventing aggregation and acting as capping agent, with the formation of spherical and stable NPs.…”

“…In this context, colorimetric sensor which rely on the interaction between the probe (nanoparticle) and target analyte are gaining reasonable consideration [9]. These assays are not only simple in mechanistic consideration but also involve minimum chemicals and complexity which make them suitable to be used practically in low-resource situations [10]. A number of such assays have already been developed for various heavy metal ions and other toxic compounds such as pesticides and drugs [9,10].…”

A number of such assays have already been developed for various heavy metal ions and other toxic compounds such as pesticides and drugs [9,10]. In the present study we have functionalized Ag NPs with l-cysteine amino acid and carried out direct detection of glucose (i.e.…”

“…Among these methods, fluorescent probes are preferred for detection of PA because of its high sensitivity and selectivity, easy sample preparation, etc. In recent years, various types of sensors based on electron‐rich polymers,, metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs), gels, nanoparticles,, carbon nanodots, covalent nanosheets, optical sensors, etc have been developed for PA detection. In 2004, Ni et.…”
