Cell adhesion molecules in childrenwith diarrhea-associated hemolytic uremic syndrome

Abstract

ThelevelsofsolubleadhesionmoleculessICAM-1andsVCAM-1werestudied in bloodof childrenwith diarrhea-associatedhemolyticuremicsyndrome (D+HUS)andin bloodof childrenwhohadpreviouslyhadD+HUS(controlgroup). Wecompared these markerswith somelaboratory characteristics of thromboticmicroangiopathy activity, inflammationandseverityofacutekidney injury.Werevealedthatserumconcentrationsof sICAM-1 were lower and sVCAM-1 were higher in children with acute D+HUS than in controls. But the prognostic value ofthese markers still remains unclear.
