“…Compared with the hydrate‐free sand specimen (#T‐1), less θ orientations of the sand particles in the specimen after hydrate dissociation (#T‐2) are distributed in the range of 0–90° and 270–320°, while more are distributed in the ranges of 90–150° and 200–240°. Terzis and Laloui (2019) proposed intergranular contacts which exhibit a homogeneous directional and spatial distribution result into stronger force chain distribution and increase the overall resistance of the material, and this will enhance the strength. Thus, macroscopically, the hydrate‐free specimen (#T‐1) shows a higher strength than the specimen after hydrate dissociation (#T‐2) in this study.…”

“…Theta ( θ ) and phi ( φ ) are used to describe the sand particles orientation (Terzis & Laloui, 2019), as illustrated in Figure 11. Theta ( θ ) corresponds to the angle between the major inertia axis of particles and the X–Y plane, ranging from 0° to 360°.…”

“…MICP is applied using Sporosarcina Pasteurii cells on sand columns batch experiments following the treatment process previously reported in Terzis and Laloui 23 . Monitoring of the reaction is done using Electrical conductivity (EC) analysis coupled with Ion Chromatography (IC) measurements to detect ionic species and evaluate the depletion of reactants (Ca 2+ ) and production of ammonia (NH 4 + ) to compare EA-MICP with conventional MICP.…”

“…Gomez et al [44] applied MICP to a variety of soils and found significant improvement in engineering properties. Other studies have also investigated the UCS of different types of soil and also analysed the CaCO 3 content [38,41,76,78,81,84,93,[95][96][97][98][99][100][101][102][103][104]. In some studies, the influence of CaCO 3 precipitation via MICP treatment on soil permeability has been assessed [38,78,80,84,95,97,100,101].…”
