Abstract:To shed light on the enigmatic origin of the vertebrate head, our study employs an integrated approach that combines single-cell transcriptomics, perturbations in signalling pathways, and cis-regulatory analysis in amphioxus, a close relative of chordate common ancestor. Through cell type characterization, we identified the presence of a prechordal plate, pre-migratory and migratory neural crest-like cell populations in the developing amphioxus embryo. Functional analysis established conserved roles of the Nod… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
