Cellulases from two Penicillium sp. strains isolated from subtropical forest soil: production and characterization

Abstract: Aims:  To isolate new fungal strains from subtropical soils and to identify those that produce high cellulase activity. To select microbial strains producing thermostable cellulases with potential application in industry. Methods and Results:  The new strains Penicillium sp. CR‐316 and Penicillium sp. CR‐313 have been identified and selected because they secreted a high level of cellulase in media supplemented with rice straw. Analysis by sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, isoelectric f… Show more

“…niger, E. nidulans, F. compactum, F. chlamydosporium, F. oxysporium, L. theobromae, P. purpurogenum, T. harzianum and T. reesei. These fungal isolates have been previously isolated from lignocellulosic materials of which wood chips is one (Immanuel et al, 2007;Picart et al, 2007). Trichoderma spp.…”

“…Efficient hydrolysis of cellulose requires the action of a complex of cellulolytic enzymes that work synergistically: exo-1, 4-β-D-glucanases, endo-1-4-β-D-glucanases and 1,4-β-Dglucanases [2]. The production of cellulases by fungi and bacteria is widely disseminated in nature.…”

“…In this study, zymograms to detect cellulolytic activity bands were performed as described previously (Picart et al, 2007), with minor modifications. Specifically, 0.1% CMC was added to 10% SDS-PAGE.…”
