Cellulose Microfibers from Salacca Midrib Fiber Isolated by the Mechanical Treatment

Abstract: Salacca midrib fibers are abundant natural waste in Turi, Sleman Regency, Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta. Cellulose Microfibers from the salacca midrib fiber has been isolated by mechanical treatment and successfully has good physical characteristics. Cellulose fibers with micro sizes can strengthen the bond effect between the matrix and the fiber due to the vast contact area. The method for isolated cellulose microfibers by mechanical treatment for speed rotation of 5000, 10000 and 15000 rpm. Mechanical stirrer t… Show more

“…The results revealed prominent characteristic diffraction peaks at 16.34°, 22.54°, 28.54°, and 34.9°. Among these peaks, those at 16.34°, 22.58°, and 34.9°, correspond to the crystallographic planes ( 110), ( 200) and ( 004) of cellulosic fiber, as documented by (Yudha et al, 2021) in their XRD analysis of salacca midrib fibers. The pattern consists of crystalline and amorphous peaks, which are types of semicrystalline material (Huang et al, 2020).…”

“…It divides three wavenumber regions: short IR (<400 cm -1 ), mid-IR (400-4000cm -1 ), and near IR (4000-13000cm -1 ) of the three types, the most widely used is the mid-IR spectrum, including in analyzing organic materials. Mid-IR is classified into four wavenumber regions [28], namely: (i) 2500-4000cm -1 there is single bond region (O-H, N-H, C-H) (ii) 2000-2500cm -1 there is triple bond region (C≡N, C≡C) (iii) 1500-2000cm -1 there is double bond band region (C=O, C=C, C=N) (iv) 600-1500cm -1 there is finger print region Figure 2 shows that two peaks appeared on the range absorbance between 4000-2500, there are 3410cm -1 , and 2924cm -1 shows the O-H stretching and H-bonded identified to alcohols and phenols groups and symmetric and asymmetric stretching C-H vibration shows acetyl groups [29][30][31]. The acetyl group is found in many tall plants and high trees.…”
