Cellulosic pulp from Leucaena diversifolia by soda–ethanol pulping process

Abstract: A selection of the best wood raw materials for cellulose pulp and papermaking from five varieties of the Leucaena has been made (Leucaena diversifolia, Leucaena colinsii and three varieties of Leucaena leucocepha) with growth periods of one, two and three years. In accordance with biomass production and the features of the raw materials and cellulose pulp obtained, Leucaena diversifolia in its second year of growth was selected as the most suitable material for pulp and papermaking. Pulping of L. diversifolia … Show more

“…L opez et al [2] undertook selection of the best pulp for papermaking among the pulps produced from L. diversifolia with growth periods of one, two and three years. These researchers for this purpose studied soda-ethanol pulping of L. diversifolia and investigated the interactive effects of process parameters using central composite factorial experimental designs under response surface methodology.…”

“…Selection of suitable Leucaena species for pulping has been reported in the literature through series of publications [2,33,34]. In these works, researchers have undertaken five varieties of the Leucaena namely L. diversifolia, L. collinsii, L. leucocephala (India), L. leucocephala (Honduras) and L. leucocephala (K360) with different growth periods of 1, 2, and 3 years; and studied alkaline pulping by adding ethanol and/or anthraquinone through experimental design techniques.…”
