The use of refrigerated containers continues to increase rapidly in line with global trade, this kind of container is commonly used to deliver perishable cargo from producers to consumers over great distances, even between continents. To avoid perishable goods from damages, the temperature inside refrigerated containers was controlled and maintained to keep the cooling performance. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of variation inlet velocity on the cooling speed inside a refrigerated container. This study was conducted through a computational fluid dynamic simulation validated with experimental results. The simulation was carried out on the variations of inlet velocity based on low-speed fan mode at 4 m/s equal to 32 circulations/hour, and high-speed fan mode at 10 m/s equal to 80 circulations/hour. The results of the simulation show that the greater the inlet fan speed, the faster the cooling speed. The finding of this study is the cooling speed time of high cube refrigerated container with the low-speed fan is 28 minutes and the high-speed fan is 40 minutes.

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations are used to monitor air pollution events supported by real-world conditions digitally. Besides, wind flow that has a close relationship with air pollutants dispersion also can be visualized by using CFD simulation. The presence of a building, especially in terms of the building’s geometry, impacts the air pollution dispersion and wind flow that occur around a building or in a specific research area. As there is an involvement of building models in the simulation, some of the standards for the building modelling: Computer-Aided Design (CAD), City Geographic Markup Language (CityGML), and Building Information Modelling (BIM), are being utilized in this type of study. Many types of research have been conducted to study the pollutants and wind flow using the CFD technique of these three standards. Hence, this review paper is used to presents several pieces of research on this related topic. Through this review paper, some of the drawbacks of the study were identified, such as the detailing of the building’s geometry and the compatibility of each standard to be implemented in the CFD simulation.

Precision farming is one of the important areas to ensure food security by coping with climate change and increase farmer’s productivity. Plant factory is one of the aspects of precision farming and recently sought attention among modern farmers in Malaysia. While ensuring continuous supply of crops throughout the year with increased quality and yield, plant factories consume large amount of energy to maintain their micro-climatic condition. This paper presents the energy consumption profiling of a plant factory, owned by Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) in Serdang, Malaysia. This study is important to establish the status quo of consumption pattern of the plant factory towards reducing the energy consumption. Hence, energy audit was carried at the plant factory for duration of 2 weeks. From the audit it was found that the energy was distributed as follows: Air conditioning system - 51%, LED - 36%, pump - 3% and others - 10%. Finally, suitable energy conservation measures were proposed to reduce the energy intensity of the plant factory.
